Recently, we have had several local incidents regarding Pit Bulls. In one, a 7 year old boy was brutally mauled and killed by several Pit Bulls. In another incident an adult female was savagely attacked and nearly killed by her own Pit Bull- cross dogs. In this incident a Wichita Falls police officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg while trying to help the victim. We have also recently had to treat several of our patients who were attacked by Pit Bulls.
In a seperate incident, one of our own employees was attacked by her own Pit Bull twice, before she decided it was time to have the dog euthanized. In the first incident it broke her arm. About a year later the dog attacked again, but this time in a much more aggressive and ferocious way. After sustaining severe injuries she is convinced that the dog would have killed her if there would not have been a vehicle close by where she could seek refuge. This Pit Bull was raised from a 6 week old puppy by the victim, it was not inbred, was never abused, and was never trained to bite. This particular incident illustrates just how dangerous and unpredictable these dogs can be.
After these incidents Dr. Spears has decided that Callfield Companion Animal Clinic will no longer be accepting Pit Bulls as new patients, unless they are spayed or neutered. We will continue to accept Pit Bulls puppies as patients, but will require that they be spayed or neutered before they turn one year of age.
We do not accept Pit Bulls or Pit Bull crosses in our boarding facility.
